Where we started:
PSPS has been around for 36 years, formerly known as the Popular Music Board. Our group's main focus was booking events for PSU students to enjoy. Some years ago, the PMB aquired a small PA system, and started providing free sound support of other student group events.
Where we are now:
PSPS has made major upgrades to its PA system in the last several years, to match the systems of most medium clubs. Services to PSU have increased many fold, as have our group's other activities, through a new open mic night, music education clinics, and the continuation of Live at lunch Concerts . Furthermore, we've significantly increased our training program, by hosting a week-long sound training with Meyer Sound, and sending 4 group members to the Audio Engineering Society Convention, in place of the College Music Journal Convention.
Where we're going:
PSPS has many goals for the next several years. First and foremost, we want to give PSU the means to address a larger portion of the student body under its own power. Our current system is adequate only for a crowd of about 500 people. With 27,000 students, we must be able to reach a significantly larger crowd. We aim to augment our system to be able to safely provide quality sound for crowds of 5,000 or more. This would enable us to do our school's own commencement ceremony, which costs thousands every term to have outside sound providers service. Furthermore, it would give students access to a tool with which to reach their peers. Finally, this would enhance the educational offerings of PSU by allowing us to prepare our technicians for real-world audio work.
